Don’t worry that your thoughts repeat themselves over and over. Just keep
writing them down. Pay close attention to the details each time – your
writing will be that much fuller, and sooner or later your ideas will move on
to something else.


1) Write a list of the 10 most important things from your life. Now, write
a second list of the same thing, not including those from the first list.
Again, write a third list of the same thing, not including those from the
first two lists. Now you have a beginning of things to write on. Keep this
list in your journal.
2) Speed Writing (also called Flow of Consciousness Writing) works
well. Just pick up a pen or pencil and start writing about the first thing
that comes to your mind, even if its “This isn’t going to work” over and
over. Sooner or later, something will start to creep onto paper.
3) Relay writing is fun to do. Grab your best buddy and jot a few lines
down. Then, pass the paper, leaving only the last line visible. Let your
friend write as much as wanted before passing it back. See if that
sparks any memories.
4) Collect things that remind you or bump your idea knob: sachet
packets, red balloons, and other things.
